Question: What Should I Include in My Personal Brand as a Creative?

There are many elements that you should include to make up your personal brand.

The first and most important one is authenticity. So often in marketing things are contrived or exaggerated, but when it comes to your personal brand, people need to be reassured that you’re the real deal. It’s what gives your personal brand substance and makes it easy for other people to relate to you.

The next element is consistency. You should have the same logo, coloursand username etc on all social media platforms and your website. That way people will know that you’re you, and won’t get you confused with anybody else with the same name.

Your talent and skills is a key part of your brand. This is particularly important as an creative. Showcase you creative work, awards and recent accomplishments so that your audience will get a deeper understanding of you.

You also have a point of view – everybody does. While it’s a good idea to avoid anything contentious you should have an opinion on things that relate to your area of talent. Sure, some people will disagree with you, but if you try to please everybody, you’ll end up pleasing nobody!

Your story is another key element to your personal brand. We all have a past. You’ll want to carefully edit and curate your back story to emphasise your talent and skills. People always love to know the backstory of an artist.

Like they say: “birds of a feather flock together” so make sure that all the people in your network elevate and support your personal brand instead of detract from it.

All the best,
